Health Care Reform
Today, millions of Americans have access to health care because of the Affordable Care Act. With this law, Senator Leahy and Congress acted to bolster the nation’s social safety net, protecting some of our most vulnerable citizens. For far too long, Senator Leahy has heard heartbreaking stories about the enormous challenges Americans face because they are uninsured or underinsured. As each new provision of the Affordable Care Act is implemented these stories are becoming fewer and fewer and are being replaced with stories of the success of these reforms, one family at a time, all across Vermont and all across America.
Senator Leahy believes there is still much more to accomplish, and there are still millions of Americans who are struggling to buy or keep adequate health insurance for their families or themselves. As these reforms are implemented over the next few years, Senator Leahy will continue to work with Vermonters and the Department of Health and Human Services to help Americans have the access to the quality, affordable health insurance that each American needs and deserves.
Between March 26 and March 28, 2012, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the Department of Health & Human Services, et al., v. Florida, et al., a case examining the constitutionality of certain aspects of the Affordable Care Act. The Court heard six hours of argument over the course of three days; a decision in the case is expected by the end of June 2012. For more information on the case please click here.
