Competition among ETF providers has intensified, forcing many to cut expense ratios on leading products as they race to snatch up the growing number of investors who are trading in their mutual funds for tax-friendly ETFs.
More than 80% of investors surveyed by Charles Schwab agreed that ETFs are "here to stay," and more than 40% said they plan in invest in more ETFs during the course of the next year.
While the S&P 500 gained almost 10% this summer, individual investors yanked nearly $40 billion from U.S. stock market mutual funds and ETFs.
