Lamborn Calls on Attorney General to Investigate ACORN

Washington, Oct 17, 2008 -

Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) issued a call to Attorney General Michael Mukasey to investigate whether or not the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, ACORN, is engaging in criminal voting fraud, promoting fraudulent registrations, or criminally misusing taxpayer funds.

Congressman Lamborn, along with 38 other Members of Congress, wrote a letter asking Mukasey to

“ensur[e] the integrity of our federal elections. Although the administration of elections is chiefly a function of state government, the Department of Justice must ensure that nationwide criminal voter fraud is targeted and eliminated as effectively and efficiently as possible.”

Lamborn and his fellow Members gave Mukasey more than three weeks to respond and are still awaiting an answer.

“Since I wrote that letter over a month ago, allegations against ACORN of voter registration fraud have increased dramatically. It seems almost daily we read about another case of alleged wrongdoing and corruption involving ACORN.  I remain very concerned not only about the integrity of the electoral process, but the misuse of taxpayer funds. These reports, at the very least, create an air of reasonable suspicion that ACORN is either engaged in criminal enterprise or does not have sufficient safeguards in place to ensure that taxpayer money is not misused.” – Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)
