Statement on Energy Freedom Day

Today, Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) released the following statement to mark Energy Freedom Day.

“Today marks the anniversary of Energy Freedom Day.  Exactly one year ago today, a bipartisan Congress lifted the ban on offshore drilling,  giving Americans access to an estimated 86 billion barrels of oil and 420 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS).  However, Barack Obama still is not allowing any production in the OCS.  He is dragging his feet on an issue that heavily impacts job creation and national security.

“While millions of Americans are out of work, the Obama Administration continues to block the creation of high paying jobs in the energy sector. According to a study by the American Energy Alliance, drilling in the OCS would generate $8 trillion in total economic output and create 1.2 million jobs annually across the country.

“We must take aggressive steps to end our dependence on foreign oil by tapping our domestic resources. I urge the administration to move forward on energy production.”—Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

Note: Congressman Lamborn is a cosponsor of a comprehensive energy bill, H.R. 2846, the American Energy Act.

·  It encourages development of renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, hydropower, nuclear, and biomass, while also producing more American-made oil and natural gas.

·  It will create more American jobs.

·  Increase environmentally-safe energy production on remote lands and far off our shores – including oil shale in Western Colorado.

· Promote the use of alternative fuels that will reduce carbon emissions, such as nuclear, clean-coal, and renewable energy technologies.

· Encourage increased efficiencies and cutting edge technologies to maximize America’s energy potential.
