LAMBORN JOINS NATION IN OBSERVING THE NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER

Washington, May 7 -

Today, Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) joined Mrs. Shirley Dobson, the National Day of Prayer team, and many other Members of Congress and constituents from all over the country gathered on Capitol Hill to observe the National Day of Prayer.

“Today I’m pleased to join with many across our nation and set aside a National Day of Prayer to offer prayers and petitions to God on behalf of our country. Prayer is America’s hope, because the power of prayer recognizes the wisdom, power, and love of God toward ourselves, our country, and indeed the whole world.  As a member of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, I am also able to gather with other Members on a weekly basis and pray for wisdom as we craft legislation and for God’s protection on our great country.

“On this day we also pay tribute to the faith of our founders, for early Americans understood that if government was the source of freedom, rather than God, then government can also take it away. We declare ourselves one nation under God with Him as the source of our rights and our freedom.  This is the bedrock principle which we must never forget.

“The founder and chairman of the Prayer Caucus, Congressman Randy Forbes, introduced H.R. 888, which affirms the rich spiritual and religious history of our Nation’s founding, and designates the first week of May as ‘American Religious History Week’.  As a cosponsor of this bill, I am thankful for the religious freedom that we still are able to enjoy, especially in a world where so many face persecution for their beliefs and where even many elected officials, some at the very highest levels of government, feel free to ignore the role of prayer for our country’s future.

“On America’s National Day of Prayer we thank God for our liberty and humbly remember that He is the only source of our hope and freedom.”--Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)
