Nation's Largest Taxpayer Group Honors Congressman Lamborn with "Taxpayers' Friend Award"

The nation’s largest taxpayer group today is honoring Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) for his outstanding pro-taxpayer voting record over the last year. The National Taxpayers Union (NTU), a nonpartisan citizen group, has announced that Congressman Lamborn ranked 14 out of 435 Members of the House of Representatives for his commitment to fiscal discipline. The NTU gave Lamborn a score of 93%. He is among only a few dozen 2009 “Taxpayers’ Friend Award” recipients out of the entire House of Representatives and Senate.

“The federal government cannot keep using the taxpayer credit card to continue to grow the size and scope of government on the backs of American families and small businesses. We are on an unsustainable course.  That is why I have voted and will continue to vote to reduce federal spending, taxes, and debt.

“We must grow our economy through sound economic policies. I am calling for across-the-board tax cuts for families and businesses, an increase in domestic energy production, and the elimination of job-killing regulations that are fueling much of the economic uncertainty in the markets.”—Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

The Taxpayers’ Friend Award is given to Representatives and Senators who achieve an “A” grade in NTU’s annual Rating of Congress. The Rating, which is based on every roll call vote affecting fiscal policy, assigns a “Taxpayer Score” to each Member of Congress that indicates his or her support for reducing or controlling federal spending, taxes, debt, and regulation. For 2009, a total of 333 House and 227 Senate votes were selected.

The National Taxpayers Union (NTU) is an independent, non-partisan citizen group that advocates lower taxes, smaller government, and economic freedom.
