The Department of Health and Human Services recently issued a rule  regarding ObamaCare healthcare state exchanges allowing for taxpayer funding of abortion on demand.

Individuals forced into state run healthcare exchanges will pay at least $1 per month as a surcharge for elective abortions, in addition to a payment for other services covered in their health plan.  This is an accounting gimmick.  Publically funded insurance plans will include abortion on demand despite many Americans' opposition to abortion as a matter of conscience.

The abortion surcharge also has a secrecy clause so that it will only be disclosed to the enrollee at the time of enrollment.  Insurance plans can only advertise the total cost of premiums without advertising the $1 per month abortion surcharge.

“This is an accounting gimmick designed to undermine longstanding federal law that prohibits taxpayer dollars from funding abortions. This is yet another case of Obamacare's complete disregard for religious freedom and the rights of conscience for those who believe abortion is morally wrong.

“The secrecy clause in this mandate makes it extremely difficult for Americans shopping for an insurance plan on the exchange to know about the abortion surcharge until they actually sign up for the coverage—and even then the surcharge is buried in the fine print.

“This is just another in a long list of broken promises on health care from the Obama Administration. We must repeal and replace this legislation with patient-centered , free-market reforms.”– Doug Lamborn (CO-05)
