Lamborn Votes to Repeal Obamacare

Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) today voted with a bipartisan majority in the House to repeal Obamacare. Speaking on the House Floor during debate on Repeal of Obamacare Act, H.R. 6079, Lamborn called Obamacare a threat to our liberty and prosperity. Because of the recent and disappointing Supreme Court ruling, it is now clear that government controlled health care will impose taxes on the American people, in spite of what President Obama earlier promised. This was the reason behind giving all House Members a fresh opportunity to go on record for or against these new taxes.

Text of Lamborn's Floor remarks, as prepared for delivery:

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to speak in support of freedom and liberty. ObamaCare – call it a tax or a mandate – is a threat to liberty and prosperity. My constituents in Colorado want to work directly with their doctors for their health care without going through a federal bureaucrat.

Obamacare burdens small businesses and families by imposing more than $800 billion in new taxes that will make it impossible for them to grow and thrive. The independent Congressional Budget Office estimates that employers will create 800,000 fewer jobs by 2021 as a result of Obamacare.

In fact, we are already seeing how this is hurting jobs today. The National Retail Federation found that 48 percent of business owners cite the potential cost of health care as a reason why they are not hiring additional workers.

We can fix what is wrong with healthcare through patient-centered reforms that are targeted, and affordable.  But first, we must protect our freedoms and the economy by repealing Obamacare.
