November 2012 in Photos
Posted by Press Office on December 07, 2012

November saw a new rush of activity in the Capitol, with Speaker Boehner appearing in the Rayburn Room the day after the election to call for bipartisan action to avert the fiscal cliff. Those efforts continued throughout the month, as Boehner joined GOP leaders for a meeting with the “Fix the Debt” coalition and delivered the Weekly Republican Address.

Boehner also welcomed a group of World War II Honor Flight veterans to the Rotunda; celebrated the 237th birthday of the Marine Corps; honored Dr. James H. Billington for 25 years of service as Librarian of Congress; and accepted a portrait of outgoing Science, Space, Technology Committee chairman Ralph Hall (R-TX) into the House collection.

Mr. Boehner, Please do not extend the Bush tax cuts, as they are called. They have done nothing to the American economy but bring it down. We need a real plan. One that will benefit the middle class right now. I am not asking for a hand out. I have been looking for a job for over a year. I am not married and have one daughter. I refuse to go one government assistance for cash, however to make sure my daughter has a hot meal everyday I do accept food stamps. If it were up to me I would not touch those benefits at all. I want a career. And right now there is nothing out there for me. This fiscal cliff y'all keep talking about seems to me to be a farce. I know our economy is in shambles but we are the greatest county in the world and there is no reason why anyone of us should have to suffer without a job or career. I have worked hard my whole life and the situation I find myself in right now is the worst I have ever been in. Please, please, please, work with the President to find a better way. I am so scared right now, and I am especially scare for the world my daughter will have to face when she becomes an adult. Please come to an agreement. Personally I do not think that keeping the same Bush cuts is going to anything but give more money to the rich and leave the poor out in the cold and having to pay the bill for it. So Mr. Boehner please consider what I say and do what is best for our country. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Yours truly, Brenda Achey.

Dear Mr. Boehner, President Obama has offered you a detailed package to reduce our debt. If you are not happy with that than I believe it is up to you, not the President, to elaborate on what you feel would be appropriate tax cuts. So PLEASE, put the damm politics aside and put your additional package on the table. You must be very afraid of your job as speaker of the house, that you will not move forward with this for fear of your comrades in the house. I am getting sick and tired of the house and senate playing games with the future of our country and millions of its citizens for the sake of 2% of the rich bitches in our country. It's time they stood up and gave their due. We sure have been victims to that but despite their money, we, as the American people were able to say what we wanted and it is to have the wealthy pay their share and more if necessary. They say that those to whom much have been given, much is expected. Only a few rich like the Koch brothers don't believe that. Most with great money do not feel it unfair to help those who do not have great money. So please.....do the right thing and settle this business. We can raise the taxes on the rich, keep the taxes low for the rest of us and discuss the rest later. Thank you. By the way, the chart you have up is Ryan's chart which has been proven to be full of holes. I'd take it off my website if I were you and not look stupid to believe that. Dear Mr. Boehner: I am writing to urge you - no beg you you to consider a more balanced approach to settling the "fiscal cliff". This issue is going to affect my household deeply as we'll as many other Americans. Please allow our Great God in heaven to lead you to be flexible and willing to work with Mr. Obama to get this resolved as quickly as possible. It just makes me sick to my stomach to see our countries leaders act in such a way. Please, Mr. Boehner, do what is best for our country. T hank you so much for your time. Vicky Willis
