(CNN) - After a firestorm of criticism from Northeast Republicans, the House of Representatives is expected to take up an aid package on Friday meant to address those still reeling in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.
Lawmakers will consider $9 billion in immediate assistance for flood insurance and will weigh another $51 billion in broader aid on January 15.

OK voters – remember what happened here when the outgoing House members didn't bother to vote on Sandy relief.
Remember that come 2014. then vote ALL of these ridiculous TPublicans out. That means the ones in YOUR district too.
These idiots did all that they could to not vote to help the victims. Like Christie said – it has been over 60 days and still no relief.......

I recall watching local TV news reports the weekend before Thanksgiving, after enduring two weeks without power. Many people still had no power. By this time, power companies had finally been able to get enough people on the ground to survey just how extensive the damage was to electrical lines and the telephone poles that supported them.
Get this. The power companies reported at combined total of "100,000 downed or damaged poles in the area", which usually means within 25-50 miles of Times Square. One Hundred Thousand poles that needed replacement or re-installed.
Although the furor of the Repubs representing NJ and NY has be assuaged for now, my personal furor and disgust over this reckless disregard of millions of tax paying Americans never will be. Inexcusable!! The next time a disaster strikes a Red Taker state that insists on electing these buffoons, I will not donate one cent to help them. We in the Blue Maker states are weary of carrying your burden only to have you undermine the government to whom you come crawling with your hands out for relief when disaster strikes. Never again will you see a donation from my house. Y'all want to play the game of less federal government and more state control, fine by me. Enjoy the consequences Taker States!
NY and NJ are different from New Orleans and Joplin in that they are BLUE states.... which don't qualify for republican assistance.

Tea party members don't think the federal government should help....with Eric Cantor leading the way. Every vote needs to be highlighted for all to see. The red state politicians who continue to push self serving political gain at the expense of average everyday people are finally being exposed for who they are. Now they will be weeded out one by one by the people who they have abandoned.
This is ridiculous. These people need help NOW. I can't help but to think this was in retaliation for Christy being gracious and respectful to the POTUS.
Support those who lost their homes and businesses in these area, but we also need to consider that the coastal environment is changing, and rebuilding in the same place the same way may not be advisable.
Engineers should be involved in these decisions, not just politicians.

It's hard to believe that certain politicians can sleep in their comfy beds at night, knowing they Oppose help for the suvivors of "Sandy"! I hope they have nightmares of superstorms! I never thought I'd live to see the day when Americans denied help to other Americans! We are not broke if we can continue to send help to other nations, to the tune of billions of dollars, but too broke to help our own! That is Unconscionable! Every American should take names & have their votes ready next year! It's the only way to rid ourselves of people who use us as talking fodder, in order to gain votes, then go right back to schmoozing w/the rich, big biz & big oil like we don't excist! Twofaced politicians may think they're clever, but they're only as clever as their Work! If that su.cks they'll be a vote away from Unemployment! We still have that kind of power, y'all! Use it!!

Engineers? "You cannot beat Mother Nature!"
Both New Jersey and Long Island suffer the same fate every year with their beaches. A strong Nor'easter comes along and causes severe beach erosion along the coast lines. The local communities complain that their tourist industry has been destroyed, and then millions are spent on trucks full of sand to refill the beaches.
Remember those pictures of entire neighborhoods inundated with sand as if it were a blizzard? Most all of that sand was truckd in sand, which had been dumped onto the beaches as fill.
I realize those people have lives and businesses, but how many times do the taxpayers have to keep rebuilding their beaches for them? I'm tired of seeing tens of millions spent every year on this stuff. Many of the beaches were artificial to begin with, so why do we keep refilling them? You cannot defeat Mother Nature.
