The Second Congressional District of Michigan spans over two hundred miles of Lake Michigan’s scenic shoreline. The district has a diverse economic background that consists of manufacturing, tourism, small businesses and agriculture. The district’s largest employers include office furniture manufacturers, auto parts suppliers and food processors. Agriculture plays an important role in the area as Michigan is home to over 200 different commodities, including cherries, apples, asparagus, and dairy.
The area was formerly known for its lumber production and a significant
portion of the Huron-Manistee National Forest runs through the district.
The area is also home to one of the largest concentrations of
Dutch-Americans. The district is known for its highly skilled workforce
and remains a desirable place to raise a family.
