Carter Sworn in to 112th Congress
01/05/11Carter Sworn in to 112th Congress
(WASHINGTON, DC) -- Congressman John Carter took the oath of office today in the nation’s Capitol to represent Texas’ 31st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives for the 112th Congress.
"This is an incredible honor to serve, and I am especially humbled by the fact the voters allowed me to do so again in spite of the negative feelings towards Congress in general," says Carter. "This gives me the chance to help restore the House to the standards the American people deserve, and to restore the confidence of the people in this body."
Carter is now serving his fifth term representing Central Texas in the House. This past November he was also re-elected by his fellow Members of Congress to a third term as Republican Conference Secretary, the sixth-highest ranking Republican in the House. Carter also remains Chairman of the House Army Caucus. Prior to running for Congress in 2002, he was a state court judge in Williamson County for over 20 years.
