AREA CONGRESSMAN TO HOST MILITARY "ACADEMY DAY" IN AUSTIN

Washington, Mar 14, 2008 -

Rep. John Carter (R-Round Rock) today announced that he will join other Central Texas U.S. Representatives in hosting an “Academy Day” for area high school students interested in attending a military service academy.  “Academy Day” will give students the opportunity to meet with officials from each of the service academies as well as Congressional staff.

   WHERE:  Beto Academic Center Lecture Hall
     Concordia University
     3400 IH 35 North, Austin, Texas

Service Academy and ROTC representatives from the U.S. Naval Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, Coast Guard Academy, Air Force Academy and Military Academy will be on hand to meet with prospective students and their parents.  In addition, Academy Liaison Officers will be available.

The “Academy Day” program will also include information about the nomination process involved in securing an appointment to one of the academies.  Students are encouraged to submit their applications during their junior year of high school to the United States Representative who represents the district they reside in and to both U.S. Senators from Texas.

Congressional staff members will be available at the event to assist prospective applicants.
