Lamborn Applauds Bush's SCHIP Veto

Today, Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-5) issued the following statement regarding the President’s veto of the State Children Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).

"I find it disappointing that the Democrats are trying to use a program that was originally designed to help poverty-stricken children for political gain. Even worse, the policy behind the Democrats’ SCHIP bill would lead the United States down a path towards socialized healthcare. The vetoed SCHIP bill would have allowed adults up to the age of 25 to get taxpayer funded healthcare coverage and allow some children in households with over $80,000 in income to receive coverage. The bill included a multi-billion dollar tax increase in order to pay for it. It enables illegal immigrants to receive benefits of citizenship at the taxpayer’s expense. President Bush’s veto was the right decision. This SCHIP wasn’t about children. It’s Democrats playing politics with the health of our nation’s children." -- Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-5)
