Lamborn Calls for Best Possible Care for Wounded Warriors

Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) today called on the Army to provide the best possible care for soldiers dealing with physical wounds and psychological trauma. Lamborn participated in a formal briefing of the Warrior Transition Battalion (WTB) by Vice Chief of Staff of the Army, GEN Peter Chiarelli, BG Gary Cheeks, the assistant surgeon general of warrior care and transition, and MG David Perkins, 4th Infantry Division commanding general. The Congressional briefing was part of a two day evaluation of Fort Carson’s WTB, which is part of an ongoing, service-wide review by the Army inspector general.

“I welcome Generals Chiarelli and Cheeks to Fort Carson for this critical review of the Warrior Transition Battalion. We must make it our top priority to ensure our wounded soldiers are getting the proper treatment they need to regain their physical and mental health.

“I caution against being overly critical of the program which is less than 3 years old and still experiencing ongoing improvements and developments. Today I heard from several soldiers who praised the WTB and credited it with their successful recovery and return to active duty. They specifically thanked their medical providers and military cadre for the individual attention and care they received at Fort Carson. While there are ongoing concerns, such as possible over medication in some cases, I believe the Army is committed to providing the best possible care.

“I thank the Army for this important review, and hope today’s visit will lead to critical innovations to address some of the soldiers concerns about medical treatment and military discipline.” – Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

The Congressional briefing included Congressman Lamborn, Sen. Mark Udall (CO), and Congressman Norm Dicks (WA-06).
