Everett is the hometown of Vannevar Bush, considered to be the Godfather of our wired age In his 1945 essay, "As We May Think," he presciently describes a theoretical machine he called a "Memex," which would enhance human memory by allowing the user to store and retrieve documents linked by associations, something we do today through hypertext and the Internet. Bush oversaw the entire scientific effort of the United Staes during World War II.
The city of Everett is the only city in the United States with a bicameral system of government (i.e. with two governing chambers): the Board of Alderman and the Common Council.
