Boustany Announces Congressional High School Arts Competition Deadline

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., MD, R-Southwest Louisiana, announced the 27th Annual Congressional High School Arts Competition. Art entries are due no later than Friday, April 18, 2008.
 
“Creativity is essential for a well-rounded education, and the annual Congressional Arts Competition gives me the opportunity to highlight some of Southwest Louisiana’s best and brightest young artists,” Boustany said. “Any high school student who is interested, should contact Holly Sibley in my Lafayette office with questions.”
 
The 27th Annual Congressional High School Arts Competition, “An Artistic Discovery,” is a nationwide art competition dedicated to the boundless creativity, talent and unique expression of our country’s young people. This competition is hosted by the U.S. House of Representatives, and each Congressional District conducts its own competition for all high school students who are attending a school within their district.
 
The competition’s first place winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design and roundtrip airfare to Washington, D.C. to attend a reception in the U.S. Capitol, where the winning entry will hang as part of an exhibit with winners from around the country.
 
Further information regarding the competition is attached. The entries must be submitted to either Representative Boustany’s Lafayette or Lake Charles District offices no later than Friday, April 18, 2008.
 
An awards presentation will be help on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. CDT, in the Old City Hall located at 1001 Ryan Street, Lake Charles, Louisiana.
 
“Downtown Graffiti”, by Lafayette native Jacob Sellers the 2007 High School Art Competition 7th Congressional District winner, has been on display in the Capitol since May.
