Boustany Announces 2008 Academy Appointments for Southwest Louisiana

 
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., MD, R-Southwest Louisiana, today announced four students from Southwest Louisiana received Military Academy appointments.
 
“These young people embody the best of Southwest Louisiana and our country,” Boustany said. “Their dedication, patriotism and hard work are so impressive. I know they will make Southwest Louisiana proud with their service. I am thankful for their commitment and wish them the best as they begin an important phase of their lives.”
 
Admission to a service academy is a two-tiered process. First, the candidate must meet the minimum admission standards set by the individual academy. These standards include, among others, medical, physical and scholastic qualifications. The second tier is obtaining a nomination from an official source. An individual must meet the admission requirements of the academy, as well as, receive a nomination in order to be considered for appointment to the academies.
 
The following students received nominations from Congressman Boustany:
 
Jacob Bihm is a senior at Opelousas Catholic High School. His parents are Jeffrey and Charlotte Bihm. He scored a composite of 34 on his ACT. His counselor stated that he currently has a 4.2667 GPA and he is contention for Valedictorian with four other students. He is active in sports and in the community. He received an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy.
 
Kenny Domingue, Jr. is a senior at Sulphur High School. His parents are Kenny Domingue, Sr. and Angela Domingue. His composite score was 27 on his ACT. His GPA is currently 3.81. He is active in school and the community. He has been with the Civil Air Patrol for two years and was selected as Cadet Commander of the Lake Charles Composite Squadron. He received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy.
 
Jonathan Primeaux is a senior at St. Louis Catholic High School in Lake Charles. His parents are Gayla and Arthur Primeaux, M.D. He scored a 29 on his ACT and has a 3.97 GPA. He is active in several school clubs and athletic teams. He is also involved in the community. He received an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy.
 
Matthew Saunders is a senior at St. Louis Catholic High School in Lake Charles. His parents are Steve and Paulette Saunders. He has a 3.75 on his GPA and scored a 23 on his ACT. He is an Eagle Scout and is captain of the football team. He is also involved in various school and community organizations. He received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy.
