Boustany- "Our Farmers Need a Responsible Farm Bill, and They Need It Now."

Jeanerette, LA – U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., (R-Southwest Louisiana), today met with more than 150 farmers in Jeanerette, Louisiana at a Farm Day Forum co-hosted by Boustany and Representative Charlie Melancon (D-Napoleonville).

“Today, I heard from hundreds of farmers from Southwest Louisiana who talked about their need for a new Farm Bill,” Boustany said. “Our farmers need a responsible Farm Bill, and they need it now. I appreciate Charlie co-hosting this year’s Farm Day. It is an important way for he and I to bring Louisiana farmers’ concerns back to Washington.

In addition to Boustany and Melancon, U.S. Department of Agriculture Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Service Mark Keenum and others from the agricultural community participated in panel discussions as well as question and answer sessions. This annual forum provides information for farmers and ranchers in Louisiana about current legislation and policies in Washington affecting agriculture.

A new Farm Bill is currently on hold in Congress as the House of Representatives, the Senate and the White House attempt to resolve key differences. Boustany, the only Louisiana member of the House Agriculture Committee, continues to fight for a sensible commodity title and against tax increases on the agricultural community.
