Small Business

Sen. Roberts Tackles Effects of
Dodd-Frank on Producers and Businesses.

I have long supported efforts to help small businesses grow and expand. Small businesses are America's job creators and the main engine of our economy. They create hope and opportunity for our entrepreneurs and workers, and are essential to our nation's economic prosperity. In the past decade, more than 60 percent of all jobs were created by small businesses, particularly by newly created small businesses. These businesses employ more than half of the nation's private-sector workforce. In Kansas, small businesses are vital to the financial well-being of the state's economy. Their contribution is essential for economic growth since they account for the largest share of commerce in the state. According to the Small Business Administration, there are 60,989 small businesses in Kansas, accounting for 96.7 percent of the state's employers.

I support tax policies to encourage small business growth and to reduce the regulatory burden on these businesses. As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, which sets tax policy for the United States, I am involved in formulating tax policies that affect the pocketbooks of small business owners and all Kansans alike. Tax policy must be designed to encourage economic growth and private sector job creation. We need to put in place a commonsense tax system that is simpler and fairer to all taxpayers - a tax system that doesn’t change every year or two. Providing certainty will give small businesses the confidence to expand and create jobs. Also, as a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, which has jurisdiction over the U.S. Department of Labor and its underlying agencies, I strive to ensure safe working places for all Americans and welcome advice and counsel from Kansas small business owners regarding regulatory requirements that affect their operations. Please know I will continue to work to ensure that Congress provides an environment that fosters the growth of small businesses.
