I was home on North Haven that morning, trying to make some calls to New York and confused over why they wouldn't go through. It wasn't until a friend called my daughter Hannah, who had just moved back home from New York, that we heard the news. That night a big group of friends and family gathered for dinner in my kitchen, stunned at the days events and grateful to be together.
Time has moved on in the 11 years since then, but that moment still hangs there, as surreal, shocking and scary as ever.
