Congressman Flake Announces Winner of Best Bad Pun Contest

Egregious Earmark of the Week to be Replaced by New Weekly Spotlight on Excessive Spending

Washington, D.C., Jan 7, 2011 - Republican Congressman Jeff Flake, who represents Arizona’s Sixth District, today announced, along with Citizens Against Government Waste, the winner of the Best Worst Pun Contest held on his website over the past few weeks.

The contest winner is a $2,000,000 earmark to acquire the Ice Age National Scenic Trail in Wisconsin, with its corresponding best bad pun: "This mammoth earmark is woolly uncalled for."

“Earmarks have been a mammoth problem, but here’s hoping we’ll experience a big chill when it comes to pork barrel spending,” said Flake.

In the coming weeks, Congressman Flake will introduce a new weekly spotlight on excessive spending.  Please watch http://flake.house.gov for the debut of this effort.
