    The State Library has a vast collection of local histories in its research collection, as well as city and town directories, town reports, and tax valuations.

  • Maps, Atlases, and Plans

    This collection holds more than 430 atlases and 3,400 maps covering most Massachusetts communities. It is particularly strong in 19th and 20th century materials. The collection includes panoramic maps, railroad maps, county atlases, and topographic maps.

    The State Library's holdings include materials useful for genealogical research. Among these are city and town directories, town histories, family histories, and tax valuations.

    The State Library has a substantial collection of digital and print materials relating to Massachusetts public officials and legislative districts. These include photographic and manuscript collections, as well as several series with biographical information for state political figures.
