Congressman Pete Olson today issued the following statement in support of a bipartisan agreement on tax negotiations:

 “This agreement prevents the largest tax hike in American history from taking place and provides needed certainty for the private sector as our nation struggles through this economic recession.   While this agreement is not perfect, it is an important step in the right direction to stabilize our economy and provide an environment for job growth.  The payroll tax cut is also welcome news for job creation.  President Obama may not agree with our view on permanent low, fair taxes, but history has proven that lower taxes increase revenue and stimulate the economy.  I’m pleased he saw the need to work with Republicans to move our economy in the right direction.”

The House and Senate still need to pass legislation to ensure that the current tax rates are extended for all income levels before January 1, 2011.
