Jobs

The Truth About Manufacturing Jobs Under Obama:  During the State of the Union Speech, President Obama touted his record on the economy by saying that, “American manufacturers are hiring again, creating jobs for the first time since the late 1990s.”  In reality, Under President Obama, manufacturing employment has fallen to its lowest level since 1941, dipping below 12 million for the first time in the post-WWII era.  Since President Obama was inaugurated, the manufacturing sector has shed 600,000 jobs.

Spending

GDP Growth Lower than Expected in 2011According to a January 27, 2012, report issued by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, real GDP increased by 1.7 percent in 2011 down from an increase of 3.0 percent in 2010.  The data shows that as more of the policies of the Obama Administration are implemented, along with continued record spending and borrowing by the president, economic growth is actually slowing.  While the president tries to tout recovery, his policies are making the economy worse.

Medicare

Medicare Would Benefit from Competition:  In a recent commentary, Ethics and Public Policy Center Fellow James Capretta explains “Medicare is valuable to seniors because it provides secure access to needed medical care at the most vulnerable stage of life.  That wouldn’t change with premium support.  What would change is that Medicare would benefit from the same competitive pressures that deliver continuous quality and productivity improvements in most sectors of the American economy.”
