New York City hosts the Armory Show and the Art Show
This week marks the hundredth anniversary of the 1913 Armory Show originally
held at the 69th Regiment Armory on Lexington Avenue and the twenty fifth
anniversary of the annual Art Show.
- It is expected that the Art Show, the Armory Show and other art fairs
will generate $54 million in economic activity in New York City.
- 66,000 people are expected to visit the shows.
- Around 220,000 New Yorkers work in the City's creative sector; another
40,000 are employed by non-profit cultural organizations.
- In 2012, New York City's Department of Cultural Affairs was again
the nation's largest public funder of the arts.

City consolidates resources reducing operating expenses by $120 million
over the next 20 years
- The City reached an agreement to sell two underutilized City buildings
in Lower Manhattan sold for nearly a quarter billion dollars
- The gross sale prices of both buildings total nearly a quarter-billion
dollars: $89 million for the sale of the Emigrant Industrial Savings
Bank building and $160 million for 346 Broadway.
- After deducing the costs associated with the project, including moving
City agencies out of the buildings, the City will net about $120 million.
