IOOS Summit 2012
The U.S. IOOS Summit was held at the Hyatt Dulles November 13-16, 2012. The Ocean.US Workshop Proceedings in 2002 set the stage for the nation’s first Integrated Ocean Observing System. Ten years later, IOOS has evolved significantly to meet the nation’s ocean observing needs. With the foundation of an integrated system now in place, the ocean observing community can begin developing a comprehensive ocean observing plan that addresses technical, scientific, and management components for the coming decade.
IOOS Summit Declaration
Representatives of the US Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) community convened in Herndon, VA in November 2012 to develop a strategy for the next decade of US IOOS. Over four days, workshop participants reviewed the progress achieved over the last decade, validated the need for an integrated observing system, and identified opportunities for growth in the coming ten years.
The first result of this effort is the US IOOS Summit Declaration. Over 150 Summit attendees have already signed; we invite you to show your continued support of US IOOS by signing the declaration.

The Draft IOOS Summit Report
Public comment period ended November 26, 2012 and the Report is currently undergoing revisions. The Final Report is expected in February 2013.
Community White Papers are Available Online
White papers submitted by the U.S. IOOS Community are available at: http://www.iooc.us/summit/cwps/. Over a hundred submissions were received covering a wide-range of ocean observing topics. The IOOC website lists the papers which are sortable by either titles or authors and the titles contain a link to the paper uploaded in Google Docs. These White Papers will be included in the Final IOOS Summit Report in the appendix.

IOOS Foundational Documents Archive
From 2000 to 2008, Ocean.US, the National Office for Integrated and Sustained Ocean Observations led the nation in planning for IOOS®, the Integrated Ocean Observing System. As a result of its significant efforts, including a pivotal series of community building workshops and planning reports, a U.S. IOOS is being implemented. Below are the publications generated during those efforts.
