Copyright Office Announces Extension of Due Date for Comments on "Termination Gap" Rulemaking
The Copyright Office is extending the time in which comments can be filed in response to its November 26, 2010, Notice of Proposed Rulemaking governing notices of termination of certain grants of transfers and licenses of copyright under section 203 of the Copyright Act. The proposed rule would clarify that the Office will accept for recordation under section 203 a notice of termination of a grant agreed to before January 1, 1978, as long as the work that is the subject of the grant was not created before 1978. Comments are now due no later than Monday, January 24, 2011. A notice formally announcing the extension of time will be published in the Federal Register during the week of December 27. For further information on the rulemaking, go to the Copyright Office website at www.copyright.gov/docs/termination.
