Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) and the U.S. House have voted to protect national security and to provide America’s men and women in uniform with the resources they need by approving the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The bill authorizes $552.2 billion for base national defense and $88.5 billion for Overseas Contingencies Operations.
Another week has gone by without an agreement on preventing our country from going over the fiscal cliff and we are still waiting for specifics from President Obama on spending cuts he is willing to make to begin the task of cutting our country’s ever-expanding debt. All we have heard from him is his obsession with raising taxes on hardworking American families and businesses.
Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) has released the following the statement regarding U.S. 71 along the western edge of Missouri south of Kansas City being upgraded to Interstate highway standards: “I am pleased that more than two decades after plans to transform U.S. 71 into Interstate 49 were formally launched, I-49 in western Missouri is now a reality. While I am empathetic to the farmers in the area who may have additional challenges moving equipment; overall, I believe Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District will benefit greatly from I-49 as our part of the state will be in a position to attract more commerce and jobs from businesses wanting to locate or expand in communities with access to an Interstate highway. The move will also enhance safety for families as access to Interstate highways is allowed only at interchanges, rather than through at-grade intersections. This upgrade is a wonderful example of federal dollars being used to benefit our people. I am pleased to see this long-awaited idea come to fruition.”
