Assistant Secretary for Homeland Security - John Morton
Assistant Secretary John Morton was confirmed on May 12, 2009, to lead the office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.  The Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs considered the nomination on April 22, 2009.  The nomination was sequentially referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee on April 29, 2009.  On May 7, 2009, the Judiciary Committee ordered the nomination reported to the Senate for consideration.

Did You Know?  In 1937, President Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed the Judiciary Reorganization Bill to empower the President to appoint an additional justice for every sitting justice over the age of 70 and one half years.  The members of the Judiciary Committee strongly opposed Roosevelt's proposal.
