Meehan to Travel to Israel Next Week

Homeland Subcommittee Chairman to Focus on Common Security Challenges

Springfield, PA – U.S. Rep. Patrick Meehan (PA-07) will travel to Israel next week as part of a congressional delegation focused on the strategic partnership between the United States and Israel. Meehan and other Members of Congress will meet with senior Israeli and Palestinian leaders, religious figures, and members of the Israeli business community. Meehan will also receive updates on Israel’s security situation and important political and economic trends in the region.

“The strategic partnership between the United States and Israel is critical to our security and the stability of the region,” said Congressman Meehan. “I look forward to discussing with Israeli leaders our continued commitment to this partnership and Israel’s fight against terrorism. American national security interests are directly tied to developments in this region, and cooperation between the U.S. and Israel in the areas of intelligence-sharing and military cooperation are vital to American interests.”

Congressman Meehan is Chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence. In hearings this year, Meehan has focused on this spring’s unrest in the Middle East and its implications for U.S. homeland security, as well as the Middle Eastern terrorist group Hezbollah.

This congressional delegation is hosted by the American Israel Educational Foundation (AIEF), a charity affiliated with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). AIEF Israel seminars are considered among the most substantive, rigorous, and valuable opportunities for members of Congress to learn about the U.S.-Israel relationship. No taxpayer dollars are used to fund this congressional delegation.

Congressman Meehan departs for Israel on August 13th.
