  3. Teri and I would like to congratulate the U.S. Navy’s first female Air Wing Commander, CAPT Sara Joyner, on her assumption of command of Carrier Air Wing Three. This is a celebrated and historic milestone within Naval Aviation and her leadership and courage are the hallmark of the United States Naval forces.
  4. As part of our planning session for 2013 which we’re having this morning, I had my staff reread the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. I also had them watch the 2009 documentary “10 Trillion and Counting.” Though I don...’t agree with every point, it does an excellent job of explaining why our debt is so high and so dangerous. If you watch it please post a response here. Though I’m not able to reply to every post, I read and appreciate each one. http://video.pbs.org/video/1099844054/See More

  8. Representative Rigell introduced the Drywall Safety Act of 2012 (H.R. 4212) earlier this year. The legislation passed the House this summer and passed the Senate with a minor amendment in December. Yesterday, the House of Representatives pa...ssed the measure on a strong bipartisan vote of 378-37 and sent the final bill to the President’s desk. The legislation sets chemical standards for domestic and imported drywall; establishes remediation guidelines for disposal of all drywall; and expresses a sense of Congress that China must be held accountable for the damage this product has already caused in our community and across America.

  9. Rigell Says Spending Must Be Addressed As Part of Solution to Fiscal Crisis

Washington, DC - Representative Scott Rigell (VA-2) voted against H.R. 8 this evening because it fails to address reckless government spending. He released the following statement:

"I have consistently called for a comprehensive solution to our nation's fiscal crisis, one that reduces spending - the principal driver of o...ur deficit - and generates more revenue through tax reform and economic growth. While the bill that came to the floor does generate additional revenue, it fails to reduce spending. In fact it increases spending.

"The President called for a balanced approach to our fiscal crisis, which, in principle, I fully support. But the bill we received from the Senate was not balanced. Instead, it reflects the seductive philosophy that pervades this town: 'The fight is always around the corner.' This has to end.

"The time to lead and make tough decisions to restore our nation's financial health is now. There is a better way. We're Americans. Let's find it."

  12. This Sunday, the House of Representatives is being called back into session for legislative business.
  13. Reckless, unsustainable federal spending threatens the foundation of our Republic. At the same time, increasing revenues through tax reform (as well as through growth) is a mathematical—and fiscally conservative—imperative.
  14. Teri and I wish you a Merry Christmas!
  15. Earlier today, Congressman Rigell spoke with Bloomberg TV about the current fiscal cliff proposals and his efforts to avert more than $4 trillion in tax increases on American families. Scott believes it is important for Washington to reach an agreement that simultaneously reduces federal spending while increasing revenue through tax reform.
