U.S. REPRESENTATIVE FREDERICA WILSON APPOINTED TO THE POWERFUL EDUCATION AND THE WORKFORCE COMMITTEE

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi announced today the appointment of Representative Frederica Wilson (FL-17) to the U.S. House Education and the Workforce Committee for the upcoming 113th Congress.  The Education and the Workforce Committee oversees programs that affect hundreds of millions of Americans, from school teachers and small business owners to students and retirees, and works to strengthen America’s schools and workforce.

“As a former teacher, principal, school board member, and state legislator with an expertise in education policy, I look forward to being a strong voice on the Committee and making significant contributions to our nation’s education and economic policies,” said Rep. Wilson.

Currently there are no Democratic Members of Congress representing the State of Florida serving on the Education and the Workforce Committee.  “As our nation’s 4th largest state and educator of children, to be appointed to this committee and represent the needs of my constituency is truly momentous,” acknowledged Rep. Wilson.

“Congress must work to strengthen the economy, create solid middle-class jobs, and provide quality and affordable education to everyone.  This will ensure that America remains competitive globally and that our people can achieve the American Dream,” Rep. Wilson said.  “I am thankful for the support of my constituents and the confidence of my colleagues, and I will continue to be a strong proponent of job-saving, job-creating, and quality-of-life enhancing policies.”

Rep. Wilson is available for comment.
