CONGRESSMAN DAN BURTON CALLS FOR SPEAKER PELOSI TO BRING THE CLEAN ENERGY TAX STIMULUS ACT TO THE FLOOR FOR A VOTE |
||
(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Dan Burton [R-IN-05] announced today that he signed a letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi encouraging her to bring H.R. 5984, the Clean Energy Tax Stimulus Act, to the floor for immediate passage. The bill, introduced by Representative Bartlett [R-MD-06] with 90 current cosponsors, contains tax credits that spur important and vital investment in various renewable energy industries, creating and sustaining jobs for the American people and growing the American economy. Burton stated, “With the job market as bad as it is right now, it is imperative that we keep the individuals already employed in the renewable energy industry working. In fact, this bill might even create some new jobs that Americans really need right now.” An independent study by Navigant Consulting, Inc. found that nationally “112,000 jobs in the wind and solar industries and $19 billion in investment” are at risk over the next six to eight months if the renewable energy tax credits are allowed to expire. Burton concluded, “Our country is in an energy crisis right now. With fuel prices as high as they are, we need to be supporting renewable forms of energy that we can use right here at home. This bill is vital to both America’s energy security and American’s overall energy policy. I hope Speaker Pelosi will bring it to the floor as soon as possible.” ### |
