    It is the early 1890’s and itinerant storytellers are the voices of the prairie. Years later, a young story teller is discovered by a radio entrepreneur and becomes famous by telling stories of a hobo named Poppy and a blind girl named Frankie.

    Lt. Col. (ret.) Frederick Turner Jr. is a Jonesboro native who became one of the first black students to enroll at ASU. He served as assistant professor of Military Science from 1969 - 1972, becoming the first black member of the instructional staff.
