Reid Announces Nearly $10 Million for Washoe County School District

Washington, D.C.- Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced a $9,711,497 grant for the Washoe County School District to support teachers and improve instruction in math and science. The grant is funded by the U.S. Department of Education through the Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF). Today, the Department of Education awarded a total of $250 million to nearly 1,000 schools nationwide to support TIF-related efforts.

“Nevada schools need effective teachers to help our students succeed,” said Reid. “In particular, math and science skills are becoming increasingly important for students. I am pleased that this grant will enable Washoe County School District to invest in math and science teachers who help improve the lives of their students and colleagues.”

About the Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF)
The TIF program supports efforts to develop and implement performance-based teacher and principal compensation systems in high-need schools. The fund helps to reform compensation systems in school districts nationwide to reward teachers and principals based on student achievement, and it also helps to increase the number of teachers working in disadvantaged communities.
