Genocide in Sudan: Rep. Wasserman Schultz Urges Americans to Participate in National Weekend of Prayer and Reflection

(Washington, DC)  --  This weekend, millions of Americans across the country will stand united for the National Weekend of Prayer and Reflection for Victims of Genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan.  This is an opportunity for all communities, regardless of faith, ethnicity, or race, to join together in support of the people of Darfur.

"As a member of the Jewish Community, I live by the concept of "Never Again," said Rep. Wasserman Schultz. "Genocide has no place in our society.  My constituents of all faiths have voiced their concerns for the people of Darfur, and I intend to do all I can to support the victims and promote a civil society."

Earlier this week on Capitol Hill, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim religious leaders and non-governmental organizations came together to voice their support for the National Weekend of Prayer and an end to the violence in Darfur.  Rep. Wasserman Schultz gave a statement at this gathering, urging Americans to participate in the National Weekend of Prayer and Reflection for the victims of genocide in Sudan.

"The displacement of the millions of refugees and the reports of genocide and mass pillaging in Sudan is horrific, and the world community standing idly by is inexcusable," Rep. Wasserman Schultz stated.  "We must all remain vigilant in our attempts to stop the violence in Sudan and bring these thugs to Justice."
