Homeland Security Our government’s number one priority should always be
the safety and security of American citizens. We must stay on the
offensive in the War on Terror while remaining vigilant here in our
homeland. Entry points into the United States -- mainly our ports and
borders -- pose a grave threat to our physical and economic security. I
will work to secure these points and stop the surge of illegal
immigrants, drugs, and those who would seek to harm us into the United
States. The most significant and pressing issue facing our
borders today is illegal immigration. We have always been a nation of
immigrants, but today we face the challenge of a new influx of people
from other countries who are coming here illegally. Illegal immigration
is creating stress on our education, health care, and social services
systems - all at the expense of the American taxpayer. Additionally,
taxpayers are saddled with the soaring costs of prosecuting criminal
activity by illegal aliens and for jail and prison costs of illegal
aliens convicted of crimes. We need to work to strengthen our immigration
policies and continue to pressure my colleagues here in Washington to
show resolve by enforcing the laws already on the books. I support
additional measures, such as imposing fines on businesses that knowingly
hire illegal aliens, eliminating the spending of tax dollars on
benefits and services for illegal aliens, cutting off federal funds to
states and cities that declare themselves "sanctuaries" for illegal
aliens, making English the official Language of the United States, and
removing the possibility of amnesty for those that break our laws. I
will also continue to work to ensure that our first responders and local
law enforcement receive every available resource to deal with this
problem. Related Documents:
