New Requirements to Receive Benefits
Unemployed Hoosiers who are finishing their first 26 weeks of regular state unemployment insurance and moving to federally funded extended benefits are now required to go to WorkOne for an in-person review of their work search records. The new in-person review is part of the federal law Congress passed in February reauthorizing the federally funded extended benefits through the end of the year. Reviews will also be required for those transitioning from the first round of federal benefits to the second if they have not previously participated. Hoosiers who are required to visit a WorkOne will begin receiving notices in April. Anyone who fails to comply risks losing their unemployment insurance benefits. Federal Reduction in Benefits
Beginning Sunday, September 2, 2012, federally extended unemployment insurance benefits will be reduced by 10 weeks. The change is a result of the federal legislation, which reauthorized the extended benefits earlier this year. Claimants who begin the federal extensions (week 27 of benefits and beyond) after Sunday, September 2, 2012 may be eligible to receive a maximum of 63 weeks of benefits instead of 73. Unemployed Hoosiers can calculate how many weeks of benefits remain in their claim by visiting the logon page on Uplink, Indiana’s online filing system, and clicking the “calculate remaining weeks of benefits” icon.
