Shreveport Times: State to get $1.2M in emergency food, shelter funds
Louisiana will get more than $1.2 million in emergency food and shelter funding in the fiscal year 2012 Homeland Security Appropriations bill, according to a release from its author, U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-New Orleans and chair of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee.
The money would come through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Emergency Food and Shelter Program, which would have a $120 million through the bill.
EFSP funds are used to supplement food, shelter, rent, mortgage and utility assistance programs for people with non-disaster related emergencies.
Funding for northwest Louisiana parishes includes Shreveport/Bossier, Caddo Parishes $112,918; Bienville Parish, $5,473; Claiborne Parish,$5,671; DeSoto Parish, $8,997; Lincoln Parish, $16,370; Natchitoches Parish, $13,965; Sabine Parish, $6,314; and Webster Parish, $14,816.
