JNC announces nominees for 3 vacant judgeships in Jefferson County

The Judicial Nominating Commission, led by Chief Justice John D. Minton Jr., announced Aug. 26 the nominees to fill three vacant judgeships that serve Jefferson County. The nominees are for the vacant circuit judgeship in the 30th Judicial Circuit, Division 11, and the vacant district judgeships in the 30th Judicial District, Divisions 7 and 9.

JNC announces nominees for vacant district judgeship in Estill, Lee and Owsley counties

The Judicial Nominating Commission, led by Chief Justice of Kentucky John D. Minton Jr., today announced the nominees to fill the vacant District Court judgeship in the 23rd Judicial District, which consists of Estill, Lee and Owsley counties. The three attorneys named as nominees to fill the vacancy are Michael Dean, William Delton “Bo” Leach and William Walter Trude Jr.

JNC announces nominees for vacant judgeship in Franklin County

The Judicial Nominating Commission, led by Chief Justice of Kentucky John D. Minton Jr., today announced the nominees to fill the vacant Family Court judgeship in the 48th Judicial Circuit, Division 3, which serves Franklin County. The three attorneys named as nominees to fill the vacancy are Roy Church Gray III, Rex Lee Hunt and Squire Needham Williams III. The Family Court judgeship was left vacant by Judge Reed Rhorer, who resigned Jan. 31 to join the Senior Judges Program.

AOC, Codell Construction reach settlement agreement on judicial center bonding

Court Facilities Standards Committee to review judicial center projects for Allen and Morgan counties

The Court Facilities Standards Committee will meet to discuss judicial center projects planned for Allen and Morgan counties at 10 a.m. EDT Monday, Aug. 31, at the Administrative Office of the Courts in Frankfort. The meeting is open to the public. The AOC is located at 100 Millcreek Park in Frankfort. The meeting will take place in the AOC Building 12 conference room.

Institute for Court Interpreters to offer new workshop Oct. 16-18

Mark your calendars for “Introduction to Criminal Law and the Criminal Justice System,” a workshop sponsored by the Kentucky Institute for Court Interpreters. The workshop is open to ASL, spoken languages and potential court interpreters nationwide. It will take place at the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts in Frankfort, Ky.

Participants will learn how knowledge of criminal law and the criminal justice system will enhance their ability to interpret for clients in the court system. Look for program details and a registration form on this Web site in the coming weeks.

AOC encourages Kentucky schools to use new system to speed up background checks

Kentucky school systems now have access to a new process that will allow them to receive the results of criminal background checks for school personnel and volunteers in days instead of weeks. The AOC Records staff is available to help schools establish accounts and answer questions about how to use AOCFastCheck. For help, contact the AOC by calling the AOC Records Unit at 800-928-6381.

Chief Justice Minton meets with students in VOICE program

Chief Justice of Kentucky John D. Minton Jr. recently met with youths in the Victims of Incarceration Choosing Empowerment program for a session in which the students asked the chief justice questions. The meeting was part of a weeklong youth summit for the students, who were from Anderson, Franklin and Scott counties. The VOICE program provides students who have at least one parent or guardian who is incarcerated or on parole or probation with a unique educational opportunity and promotes a healthy view of the justice system. Other activities during the week included touring the state capitol, participating in team-building experiences and hearing from motivational speakers. The program was established in 2008 through a Kentucky Bar Foundation grant.

Judge Olds receives NAACP President’s Award

Judge Chris OldsFranklin County District Court Judge Christopher M. Olds recently received the NAACP President’s Award from the Frankfort/Franklin County branch of the organization. The award recognizes Judge Olds’ outstanding contributions to Frankfort and Franklin County. Judge Olds was honored with the award at the branch’s annual banquet on June 20. This year marks the 100th year of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

The Judicial Nominating Commission, led by Chief Justice of Kentucky John D. Minton Jr., announced July 28 the nominees to fill the vacant circuit judgeship in the 2nd Judicial Circuit, Division 1, which serves McCracken County. The three attorneys named as nominees to fill the vacancy are Timothy Jon Kaltenbach, Leo Lansden “Lanny” King and Joe Christopher “Chris” McNeill, all of Paducah. The Circuit Court judgeship was left vacant by Judge R. Jeffrey Hines, who resigned Jan. 10 to join the Senior Judges Program.
