LGBT Americans and the CensusCaucus Co-Chairs, Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Barney Frank (D-MA), and Jared Polis (D-CO), sponsored a briefing on LGBT Americans and the Census. How do same-sex headed families fill out the census? What about transgender individuals? What is the Census Bureau doing to reach out to LGBT individuals? Does the Census Bureau plan to publicly report data about same-sex marriages? What can Congressional offices do to support their LGBT communities in taking part in the 2010 U.S. Census? We invited an impressive panel of experts to discuss what is happening with the 2010 U.S. Census and LGBT Americans. Panelists provided information on how the Census counts LGBT individuals and described efforts currently underway by the Census Bureau to ensure LGBT Americans and households will be visible in 2010. We also discussed how to ensure LGBT families are counted and reported, so we can ultimately achieve an accurate picture of our true numbers in the United States.View photo series.

More states are poised to adopt pro-equality policies, the California Supreme Court is expected to rule on “Prop 8” any day, and a Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) lawsuit is making its way through the Massachusetts courts.View photo series.
