Lautenberg Applauds Senate Action on Emergency Aid for New Jersey Families and CommunitiesLautenberg Press Office, 202-224-3224Friday, December 21, 2012 WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Senate today took an important step toward passing an emergency supplemental appropriations bill to aid families and communities affected by Superstorm Sandy. U.S. Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) applauded the action and urged swift approval of the $60.4 billion emergency disaster aid bill. The legislation includes federal resources to help residents, homeowners, businesses, and local governments recover; rebuild and improve New Jersey’s beaches and transit system; and repair roads, bridges, and infrastructure. The Senate overwhelmingly voted for cloture on the $60.4 billion measure today and is expected to vote on final passage next week. “Today’s action in the Senate is a crucial step in providing sorely needed emergency disaster aid to New Jersey families struggling to recover from Superstorm Sandy," Lautenberg said. “This emergency disaster relief bill will provide critical federal funding to help residents and businesses, while rebuilding and strengthening New Jersey’s shore and transportation network. The people of New Jersey and New York have been there when other states experience disasters, and bipartisan cooperation has always been a cornerstone of recovery efforts in this nation. This is a robust and responsible bill that funds most of the needs assessed by New Jersey and New York, and it will be an important tool in rebuilding our states. I urge all my colleagues to support its swift passage.”
