57th Presidential Inauguration
The Fifty-Seventh Presidential Inauguration will take place on January 21, 2013 on the West Front of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. For more than 200 years, the swearing-in of the President and Vice President of the United States has been a public event.
The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) convenes every four years to plan and execute the inaugural events. The Committee is comprised of members of the Senate and the House of Representatives. For more information on the history of the JCCIC, please click here.
Over time, the traditions associated with inauguration day have grown. Currently the day consists of a morning prayer service, the procession to the Capitol, the swearing-in ceremony, the inaugural address, the departure of the outgoing president, the inaugural luncheon, the inaugural parade, and the inaugural ball.
