As stated in the oath of office, I pledge to defend the Constitution of the United States and bear true faith and allegiance to the same.

It is an honor to take the oath of office as we begin the 113th Congress. So proud to represent the people of Alabama's 2nd District.

Unfortunately, the deal forged by the Senate and the Vice President does not contain real spending cuts, and I could not support it

I had hoped Congress could agree on a reasonable plan to reduce the deficit. A balanced plan would include cuts to mandatory gov't spending

Speaking of spending we can't afford, I just voted for reinstating the pay freeze for Members of Congress & federal employees

What’s wrong with the Senate/Biden plan? It doesn’t cut spending. In fact, it adds more to the deficit. Really.

Headed back to meet with fellow GOP House members. Earlier today many of us expressed disappointment with the plan passed by the Senate.

A true reminder of why we’re here today. $16 trillion in national debt. What are we doing to stop THIS fiscal crisis?

House GOP Conference meets late tonight, when hopefully we'll know whether or not the Senate will act on a plan to avert the "fiscal cliff"

Look who came with Mom to work today! Now headed over to the Capitol for votes & more meetings...

It's now time for the Senate to participate. Grandstanding on the Senate floor and ducking responsibility won’t do anybody any good.

We've already passed a two-bill prevention plan: one bill to keep tax rates low for all Americans & one to replace sequester

Precious picture of Margaret and George on Christmas morning. From our family to yours, Merry Christmas!

We have serious solutions that cut taxes & cut wasteful spending. Do Senate Dems & White House? See for yourself ->

I am about to be live on the Dan Morris Show to discuss the ongoing debate. Listen on 93.1 FM or here:
