Remember When the Left Used to Freak Out About News Like This?

We’ll have to wait for a Republican to get elected president for the left to once again go apoplectic and throw around accusations of fascism over things like this:

By a vote of 73 to 23, the US Senate just voted for the warrantless surveillance of American citizens until 2017.

The vote, set to affirm to eradicate the FAA Sunsets Extension Act of 2012, means we’ll be living with Bush-era spy laws for another half decade. In 2007, the Senate voted to grant blanket immunity to companies like AT&T, which conspired with the NSA to monitor American digital conversations without government oversight after 9/11. Today’s vote continues that immunity, and provides further carte blanche for the American intelligence-gathering apparatus. Phone calls, texts, and emails are all fair game—and a judge doesn’t have to give the OK, so long as it’s in the name of counterterrorism. Which is a very easy guise.

Obama is expected to sign it.

The One campaigned in 2008 under a platform of getting rid of Bush’s policies in this area (and almost every other area for that matter), but in fact warrantless wiretaps have skyrocketed under Obama.

    I remember reading this somewhere in an 18th century document that used to be read and understood by the people of this country, especially those sworn to uphold and defend it:

    The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

    The R and D class both fail this one, of course, in the name of security.

    One of those present at the adoption of this document was known to say, in 1755, "Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither"

    But I thought Al Qeada was on the run? How long have we had to hear from the Left all these massive DOD budgets and hi-tech surveillance gadgets were the product of Rightwinger paranoia?

    Quick note I've mentioned before. In the days immediately following 9/11, my home office line would get tapped ALL the time. The hum-buzz was unmistakable but I understood. We make regular calls to the Philippines so I didn't mind, clients couldn't hear the same hum.

    But that was over a decade ago. Since the MSM refuses to address these issues, I can kinda' see why MM is such a cheerleader for Twitter. Without stirring controversy there, it wouldn't be addressed at all!

    Chap, the Kos/HuffPo crowd absolutely SWARMS the internet w/ low info info depicting "domestic terrorists" as "the biggest threat to our 'Democracy' ". Virtually ALL of the Google hits for a search of that nature feature "Think Progress" fluff pieces portraying any COOK returning from exotic and troubled places like ( Biloxi, MS ) as "ticking time bombs"!

    A hole in the 2012 election we could've driven a Mack TRUCK through! Another major e'f up we may not live long enough to counteract… One, (1) abortion clinic attack = 1,000 mooslim extremist's plots. And we didn't catch it. Or at least address adequately.

    Why I'm such a huge fan of low-tech solutions. Mary Katherine Ham recently explained her ENTIRE wedding plans were 'consummated' ONLINE. One tech glitch and she won't have the phone number for her cake decorator! We need a Central Conservative IT "Clearing House" to get our bloggers back up and running ASAP. So instead of pouring $'s into Weepy's pockets..?
