'Battle of the Bay' boosts Coast Guard Reserve teamwork and morale
The first Coast Guard Sector Baltimore Olympics was held Feb. 16, at the Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore. Teams made up from more than 40 Coast Guard Reserve members from stations Washington, D.C., Curtis Bay, Md., and St. Inigoes, Md., as well as Sector Baltimore’s Vessel Boarding and Security Team, Incident Management Department, Prevention Department and Servicing Personnel Office, gathered to participate in a variety of events to earn the newly coveted “Battle of the Bay” award plaque.

A Coast Guard boatcrew from Station Tillamook Bay in Garibaldi, Ore., medically evacuated a 64-year-old crew member from a commercial fishing vessel in the Pacific Ocean approximately two nautical miles west of the entrance to Tillamook Bay, Wednesday afternoon.

Weather conditions, crew responsiveness, incoming hazards and myriad meters, gauges and measurements. These are just a few of the things that a pilot has to be wary of when flying an aircraft. A new concern is affecting Coast Guard pilots from Cape Cod, to Hawaii, from Puerto Rico to Seattle. Every air station in the Coast Guard is on the lookout for a simple beam of light.
