Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, December 11, 2012.

The nation will feel a trend of calming weather on Tuesday as a cold front pushes off the East Coast and temperatures in the Plains begin to moderate.

Wet weather will come to an end in the early morning hours across much of the East Coast as the cold front that brought strong thunderstorms and even some tornadoes to parts of the South and Southeast moves into the Atlantic. Some showers and cloud cover will linger behind the front, becoming more frequent in the north. Temperatures behind the front are expected to be much colder than Monday’s highs. Some locations will see their high temperature drop around 20 degrees from the previous day.

Behind the front, temperatures in the Mid-West will remain cool, but the Plains will begin to see the frigid air that moved in on Monday start to warm up. The effect will be most pronounced in the Southern Plains, but in the Far North, a brief shot of reinforcing cold air could make portions of North Dakota and Minnesota colder than Monday.

In the West, pleasant conditions are expected to start off the day, but a Pacific storm will move into the Northwest by the evening. This cool storm will bring rain to the low elevations, and snow levels will be at moderate elevations. Serious flooding and heavy snowfall accumulation are not anticipated.
