Welcome to Neuropsychopharmacology

Neuropsychopharmacology is an international scientific journal and the official publication of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology. The journal focuses on clinical and basic science contributions that advance our understanding of the brain and behavior.

Neuropsychopharmacology Reviews transforms all you enjoyed in the Generation of Progress series into an annual 13th issue of Neuropsychopharmacology. To learn more or to read about this year's topic, Epigenetics, visit www.neuropsychopharmacologyreviews.org or the latest NPP podcast.

NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

2013 Neuropsychopharmacology Reviews Highlighted

Epigenetics of Depression
HaoSheng Sun and Eric Nestler focus on the role of histone acetylation and methylation in the pathophysiology of depression and in animal models of resilience.

MicroRNA Biogenesis and Regulation
Dónal O'Carroll and Anne Schaefer provide an overview of the microRNA-mediated regulation of the brain's transcriptome, by means such as translational inhibition and mRNA degradation.

Announcing the 2011 Impact Factor: 7.991, a 20% increase from last year. The Impact Factor, a citation metric that averages the citations to the two most recent years of published articles, is a relative measure of comparison for journals across a subject category. Neuropsychopharmacology now ranks 6th out of 129 journals in the field of psychiatry. The journal continues to publish cutting-edge research on neural systems and therapeutics.

New podcast episode: Neuropsychopharmacology Reviews: Epigenetics
Listen to the latest podcast, in which Dr. Eric Nestler, one of the editors of this year's Neuropsychopharmacology Reviews, provides an overview of the topic, including the somewhat controversial theory of epigenetic heritability. Catch future episodes by subscribing to this podcast for free.

New podcast episode: Bath salts
Dr. Michael Baumann discusses the dangers of synthetic stimulants sold under innocuous names such as "bath salts" or "plant food" and the difficulties of keeping them regulated. Dr. Baumann's accompanying original article is available to read here for free. Catch future episodes by subscribing to this podcast for free.

A dopamine blocker could help smokers quit. Treatment of overnight abstinent smokers with GSK598809 helped alleviate cravings. Read the press release here.

Childhood maltreatment disrupts white matter. Abuse experienced during childhood negatively impacts white matter formation and leads to higher risk for future emotional or behavioral disorders. Read the press release here.

Increased glutamate found in women with postpartum depression, using magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Two studies found that ADHD meds do not increase risk of addiction to cocaine or methamphetamine in rhesus monkeys. Read the press release here.
