A dentist acted legally when he fired an assistant that he found attractive simply because he and his wife viewed the woman as a threat to their marriage, the all-male Iowa Supreme Court ruled Friday.
The court ruled 7-0 that bosses can fire employees they see as an “irresistible attraction,” even if the employees have not engaged in flirtatious behavior or otherwise done anything wrong. Such firings may be unfair, but they are not unlawful discrimination under the Iowa Civil Rights Act because they are motivated by feelings and emotions, not gender, Justice Edward Mansfield wrote.
Ha Ha. Lady got fired for being beautiful. Wow. Can you guess which year this crazy thing happened?
The double issue that goes to bed tonight and hits newsstands Monday (and tablets on Sunday), will have bylines from former Newsweek editors-in-chief Jon Meacham, writing on the magazine’s presidential covers, and Mark Whitaker, writing about civil rights coverage. Tina Brown wrote her usual editor’s note.
Other past and present Newsweek bigs who contributed pieces include Evan Thomas (co-writing with former Time managing editor Jim Kelly on the newsweeklies’ rivalry); Eleanor Clift (on women); Michael Isikoff (on Monica Lewinsky); David Ansen; Dan Klaidman; Andrew Romano and others.
A Newsweek spokesperson wouldn’t say what the cover was.
President Obama released a video “explaining a comprehensive effort to come up with a broader set of serious proposals and encouraging Americans to continue their participation in this important process.”

ramblingrainbow asked: I was wondering why Psy was described as "so foreign" in your post about Gangnam Style. Foreign means from a country or language other than one's own, so to say that someone is "so foreign" does not entirely make sense. Whilst I appreciate that the culture in South Korea is very different to your own culture, I do not think that "so foreign" is the best way of phrasing this. Perhaps you could rephrase it?
Not our words. We reblogged that.
2012. Psy releases his music video for Gangnam Style. Never before has an artist so foreign been able to make such a huge impact with one crazy music video. And this video is definitely crazy. Also great.
This is the Platonic Ideal of a viral sensation.

Made ourselves a vintage Newsweek ad.
(Anyone have a clue what that older font is? Best we could do without looping in the art department!)
